Hey friends,
If you’ve ever lost hours down the Google rabbit hole trying to “research” something for your next product, post, or pitch — you’re not alone.
I used to have 87 tabs open, trying to compare tools, read stats, or make sense of complex topics. It was a mess.
Then I discovered one ChatGPT agent that changed everything:
Deep Research Agent
Think of it like hiring a PhD-level AI researcher — but it works in the background while you grab coffee.
Today, I’ll show you exactly how I use it to:
- Validate digital product ideas
- Research and summarize complex topics
- Create content that actually sounds informed
And of course, I’ll give you prompts, examples, and a few PRO tips to get started fast.
⚙️ What is Deep Research?
Deep Research is a research agent inside ChatGPT that builds long-form reports using real sources — websites, PDFs, and even images.
You give it a clear prompt, and in 5–30 minutes it gives you:
- A well-organized, multi-section report
- Direct citations and links
- A shareable link or downloadable PDF
And yes, it’s actually good — not like the generic summaries you get from chat-based searches.
🧠 It feels like having a research assistant who never gets tired.
🚀 Why This Beats Google Search (By Miles)
Let’s be honest: Googling is broken for real research. You get SEO fluff, 10-year-old blog posts, and clickbait like no tomorrow.
Deep Research skips the noise and gives you:
- Synthesized insights (with sources)
- Structured formats (no tab overload)
- Deeper context (especially for technical or niche topics)
✍️ How I Use It (With Real Examples)
Here are 3 ways I’ve used Deep Research that saved me hours — and made me look way smarter than I am:
1. Validate Product Ideas Fast
Prompt I used:
“Research the current market size, key competitors, and feature gaps for an AI app that helps creators build digital products. Provide data sources from creator economy research papers and studies primarily.”
In 15 minutes, I had:
- Market size estimates
- Competitive analysis (with positioning and pricing)
- Gaps I could potentially fill
📊 I used this to help me begin my vibe coding journey, and I’m having a lot of fun! (Stay tuned)
2. Become an “Instant Expert” on Complex Topics
One of my favourite Deep Research use cases? Speed-learning a topic I need to speak confidently about — without spending hours reading articles or watching YouTube explainers.
Recently, I needed to understand the current state of open-source AI models vs. closed-source ones for a proposal I was writing.
Here’s the prompt I used:
“Compare open-source and closed-source AI models in 2025. Include the pros, cons, notable examples, and current debates around security, speed, and commercial use.”
Within 15 minutes, I had a clean, structured report with:
- Real-time examples (Mistral, LLaMA 3, GPT-4)
- Trade-offs I hadn’t considered (like licensing risks and community-driven upgrades)
- A balanced perspective, backed with citations I could dig into deeper
🎯 This helped me go from “I’ve heard of this” to “I can explain this”
3. Create Research-Backed Content (Ebooks, Blog Posts, Newsletters)
Prompt I use:
“Help me research for a short ebook about AI agents for solo creators. Include trends, relevant stats, and suggested chapters based on current tools in the market.”
It returned:
- Topic clusters and chapter suggestions
- Relevant sources and citations
- A format I could expand into a newsletter series and downloadable guide
💥 This wasn’t perfect, I was more curious on this one but it definitely opened my eyes on AI agents in the creator economy
🔐 The Catch (and How to Get It)
Deep Research is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, Edu, or Enterprise users.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Free users: 5 “Lite” reports (still useful, just simpler)
- Plus: 10 full reports/month (15 Lite reports)
- Pro: 250 full reports/month + unlimited Lite
Lite reports are faster but don’t go as deep — still amazing for lighter topics or summaries.
🧠 Pro Tips for Better Reports
If you want Deep Research to feel less “meh” and more “wow,” try this:
- Be super clear in your prompt. Tell it what format, tone, and length you want.
- Answer the follow-up questions. It’ll ask for more detail — don’t skip these.
- Use follow-ups. You can ask it to rewrite a section, summarize it for social, or export to PDF.
🙌 Final Thoughts
You don’t need to “research harder” — you just need a better way to find, structure, and use information.
If you’re building anything — a business, a research backed report, a client pitch — Deep Research will be your new secret weapon.
Try one of the prompts I shared today, and let me know what you use it for. I might even include your use case in a future episode!
What’s the last topic you wasted 2+ hours researching?
